Honoring the Legacy & Sacrifice of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji
This book stands as perhaps the first of its kind to comprehensively highlight the extraordinary sacrifice of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji — Hind Di Chadar, Aastha Azadi Rakha — and the singularity of its nature. It offers a detailed, source-based account of his unmatched martyrdom and traces his enduring legacy from that pivotal moment to the present day.
Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji made the ultimate sacrifice — not for personal gain, but to uphold the fundamental right of every individual to follow their faith in accordance with their conscience. His stand against religious persecution was unlike any other in history. At a time when the Hindu community was facing systematic oppression and cultural erasure, he became the beacon of resistance and revival.
His fearless act awakened a dormant society, reigniting pride in cultural identity and ancestral values. He inspired countless others to rise, resist, and, if necessary, lay down their lives to protect their heritage — a message that continues to resonate through generations.
Without his sacrifice, the name of Hindustan, along with its deeply rooted Hindu culture and identity, might not have survived. His legacy remains the cornerstone of cultural harmony and spiritual resilience in India today.

The self-sought sacrifice of ‘Hind Di Chadar’ on November 11, 1675 in the Chandni Chowk of Delhi upon listening to the heart-rending tale of the Kashmiri Pundits, subsequently challenging the coercively Religious Conversion Policy enforced w.e.f. April 9, 1669 A.D. by the most dreaded and fanatic Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, was strikingly very singular and significant.
It was conspiciously singular in its mission, manner and impact as it was a first of its kind in the annals of the history of Faith in contrast to the likes of the preceeding martyrdom by Socrates, Jesus Christ, Mansur-Al-Halaz, Guru Arjan Dev and Samrad.
It was significant as it had successfully blunted the piercing teeth of the said policy and saved the Hindu Dharma, its ancestral and cultural honour from obliteration then, and had given Guru Ji an opportunity to champion the Right to Freedom of Worship now enjoyed constitutionally since January 26, 1950 by the Bhartis/Indians.
Sadly, such singular and significant sacrifice of Guru ji suffered oblivion for about 110 years since 1675 and thereafter surfaced distortedly and fictionally for the next 125 years.
It pained my psyche deeply and enthused me to not only set aside the fictitious and distorted description as regards to Guru ji’s execution and lofty character, but to also present his sacrifice and life journey in their rationally right perspective based on available sources.
I trust that the sacrifice of ‘Hind Di Chadar’ – Astha Azadi Rakha Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Ji, would inspire the present generation and the generations to come to follow in his footsteps to keep up ever high our beloved motherland’s head and her national and cultural honour too.
